Civil Partnerships

A new law giving same sex couples the opportunity to enter into a “civil partnership”, very similar (but not identical) to a marriage, came into force in December 2005.  We can advise you on all aspects of the new law including the effects of a civil partnership :

• after death, whether or not the civil partner has made a will
• on tax, benefits, pensions, life policies etc
• on the immigration status of you or your partner
• on parental responsibility for a child

Our solicitors can advice you as to what the effect of a partnership entered into abroad (such as a French PACS) will be in this country, whether it will be recognised, or whether you will need to enter into a fresh civil partnership.  We can also advise you as to whether your civil partnership is likely to be recognised in the country to which you are moving.

If your civil partnership has broken down we can obtain a dissolution (similar to a divorce) from the court, and advise you as to what financial claims you or your ex partner may have.
